Embassy for Water; James Geurts; 2012

"Embassy for Water is the first embassy dedicated to a shared natural resource, beyond the nation-state. It is an embassy for arts-led, creative and interdisciplinary exploration into the importance of water to human society and the natural world at large.

Embassy was founded in 2012 by artist James Geurts and later the same year become a collaboration with artist, curator and writer Julie Louise Bacon. Embassy is conceived as an artistic space and curatorial umbrella for projects and processes that emphasize experimentation, negotiation, and intervention around the water-culture question.

Above all, Embassy is premised on interconnectivity, like the body it represents: water. We propose a new vision of what the cultural institution of an Embassy can be, of the types of activity, participation, networks, and conversations that can take place through its auspices.

Embassy for Water is a nomadic reality, a series of satellite projects, a conceptual and curatorial hub, a physical space, water-inspired artworks, a building, a conversation across fields: the arts, philosophy, architecture, politics and the sciences."
