A few popular songs about water, rivers, seas etc (for fun – partly)

Unsurprisingly, water -  in various forms - has inspired many, many songs and compositions. Here a few (just for fun really)

Not just songs about ‘raindrops’ (although there are some very good ones), but things a bit ‘deeper’ if you will excuse the pun. I am sure there are many glaring omissions. I am sort of interested in looking at these collectively for themes, changes over time etc.

At first glance water here is seen as – threat; a taker of people; a divider of people; a retreat/place to escape to; a place of freedom from state power; a soother of the senses/emotions; as a symbol of change; as a profound bodily and spiritual need; as a cleanser; as a carrier; as a pattern making process; as a threatened ecological realm; as a metaphor for love (and sex) - and time of course.
