I wrote a song called Beach Works when the last batch of "coastal improvement" started, a couple of years ago, in Borth. The words are below the picture. Time will tell which way it goes...

As I walked round Cardigan Bay

Enjoying the beautiful view

I met some men with bulldozers

And I asked what they were up to

We're moving stones to hold back the sea

For the next time there is a flood

We want to safeguard all of your homes

And we're sure our planning is good”

Well I walked on at Cardigan Bay

And I met a man with a dog

He said “my house hasn't flooded from the sea

But it has done from the bog

All that work is a waste of money

And it won't do any good

They moved those stones to the South of the village

And we still had a serious flood”

Well I walked on at Cardigan Bay

And I met a man with a beard

He thought all the work had stopped the last flood

From being as bad as he feared

We just don't know how bad it would have been

If the work there hadn't been done

My house might have flooded six feet not two

And we'd all have had to run”

So if you go to Cardigan Bay

You can make up your own mind

Is this a genuine defence from the sea

Or a waste of money and time?

Is it ugly, costly, noisy and dirty

But will keep the village afloat

Or ugly, costly, noisy and dirty

And we'd still better get a good boat?

You have said a lot here Tom, in the poem and image, which brings out the voices of the community very well. A wry- but also quite dark?- last line? Thanks so much for sharing this on the blog.
